This weekend all four of the girls basketball teams competed in the Georgetown Holiday Hoop Tournament. 7A won the consolation bracket championship. They lost their opening game 12-15 against Forbes Middle School. Caitlin Stringer and Torrie Monroe-Peterson scored 5 points a piece in the game. On Saturday, Lake bounced back winning against Wiley Middle School 25-8. Sophie Quigley lead the team in scoring with 10 points followed by Peterson with 8. Lake Would face Tippit Middle School in the consolation championship game and come away with the win 18-17. Armonieya Kosar would lead the team in scoring with 8 points and Peterson would chip in 5. 7B went 1-2 on the weekend. They lost their first game to Forbes 13-14. Callie Jacobs, Kylie Baker, and Emily Martell all scored 4 points each. On Saturday, Lake would shutout Wiley 23-0. Jacobs would lead the team in scoring with 8 points followed by Ella Wardell and Kassidee Harding with 4 points a piece. The Broncos would battle the entire time in the consolation championship game, but unfortunately would come up short to Tippit 10-14. Wardell would lead the team in scoring with 4 points. Reagan Lopez played great defense throughout the tournament and showed tremendous hustle. The 8B team finished the Georgetown tournament with 2 victories and came away with the Consolation plaque. All the games were played with heart and hustle from the players. Top players for the tournament were Keira Dzenowski, Taytum Hobson and Whitely Truett. 8A finished the tournament 1-2. They dropped their first game to Forbes on Friday, but bounced back with a win on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, they could get the win in the consolation championship game. Brynlie Wurts truly exemplified the heart of a competitor during the tournament, consistently rising to the challenge against bigger, stronger, and tougher opponents. The Broncos are back in action in their final contest before the Christmas break on Thursday at home against Bonham.
