Midway Panthers Stifle The 7B Lake Belton Broncos in Defensive Showdown, 25-11 In a game marked by gritty defense and relentless energy, the Midway Middle School Panthers defeated the Lake Belton Middle School Broncos 25-11. The Panthers’ disciplined play and swarming defense proved too much for the Broncos to overcome, despite a valiant effort from Lake Belton’s key players. Robert Gudgen led the Broncos with 5 points, showcasing his ability to create opportunities under pressure. Jeremiah Rivas, Mason Brown, and Grayson Williams each added 2 points, contributing to Lake Belton’s scoring efforts in a hard-fought contest. While the Broncos struggled to find offensive rhythm, they displayed moments of brilliance, particularly in the second quarter when Gudgen scored a crucial basket to break a scoring drought. However, the Panthers’ ability to force turnovers and convert in transition kept the Broncos from closing the gap. On the defensive end, Preston Bragg and Conner Krueger were the heart of the Broncos’ hustle. Despite a spirited effort, the Broncos struggled to find their rhythm offensively and couldn't overcome the Panthers' solid defensive play. Blain Johnson led the charge for Lake Belton, finishing as the high point man with 7 points. His scoring was a bright spot for the Broncos, as the team battled to stay within striking distance throughout the game. Keaundre Bradley also contributed 4 points, showcasing his ability to make plays when needed. On the defensive end, Lawson Phillips and TJ Jones played standout roles, helping to limit the Panthers’ offensive opportunities. Both players were solid on the defensive side, forcing turnovers and playing tough, physical basketball. Their efforts were crucial in keeping the game competitive, even when the scoring wasn't coming as quickly for the Broncos. Despite the loss, several Lake Red players stepped up to contribute. Leading scorers included Madalyn Harrison, Carlos Sanchez, Cooper Smith, Nidon Shin, and Caleb Eckert, each chipping in two points to keep the team in the fight. On the defensive side, standout performances from Michael Brooks-Davis, Charlie Valish, and Carlos Sanchez earned praise from coaches and fans alike. Their relentless effort and hustle kept Lake Red competitive, holding Midway’s offense to manageable runs for much of the game. Lake Belton 8th Grade Silver Team Suffers 47-14 Defeat to Midway in Tough Basketball Showdown In a challenging matchup on the court, the Lake Belton Broncos Silver Team faced a tough loss, falling 47-14 to the Midway Panthers in their game on Tuesday night. The game, which saw the Broncos struggle to find rhythm offensively, was dominated by the Panthers' suffocating defense and efficient scoring. From the opening tip-off, it was evident that Midway’s defense would be the key factor in the game. The Panthers came out with relentless pressure, using a full-court press and trapping defenses to force turnovers and limit Lake Belton’s offensive opportunities. Lake Belton had trouble breaking past Midway’s defense throughout the game, with the Panthers causing chaos in the backcourt. As a result, the Broncos found themselves in an uphill battle, unable to get consistent looks at the basket. On the offensive end, Lake Belton couldn’t find a way to score efficiently. The Broncos struggled with ball movement, frequently turning the ball over in the face of Midway’s defensive pressure. Even when they did manage to get open shots, the shots wouldn’t fall. Lake Belton’s leading scorers were unable to get into any rhythm, as Midway kept up the pressure, limiting the Broncos to just 14 points by the final buzzer. While their defense was stellar, Midway’s offense was equally effective. The Panthers executed their offense smoothly, moving the ball quickly and finding the open man for easy baskets. Midway’s players demonstrated excellent court awareness and shot selection, knocking down three-pointers and converting in the paint. By halftime, the Panthers had built a comfortable lead, 29-5, and they didn’t look back. In the second half, Midway continued to dominate, scoring efficiently and stifling any hopes of a Lake Belton comeback. Their defense remained airtight, forcing even more turnovers and limiting the Broncos to just 9 points in the final two quarters. Despite the loss, Lake Belton did show moments of grit. The Broncos continued to fight hard throughout the game, and there were a few strong individual performances, even though the team struggled. The players gained valuable experience in this tough matchup, which will be crucial as the season moves forward. Leading Scorers: Tiger Maxwell with 8 points, Carter Johnson with 3 points, Tristan Cannady with 2 points and Jaiden Gomez with 1 point. Next week is a bye for Lake giving the teams time to regroup and refine their strategy. They’ll return to the court on Thursday, December 19th, when they face Bonham Middle School in an away game.
