The 7th grade would split games in their season opener at home against an athletic cove squad. While the 8th grade handles their business and swept the Bulldawgs. 7th Grade Red Team would come up short falling 37-13 While the scoreboard tilted heavily in favor of the Bulldawgs, the Broncos showed moments of resilience and effort that hint at their potential as the season progresses. Despite Lake Belton’s best efforts, the Broncos struggled to find their rhythm offensively, facing a relentless Copperas Cove defense that stifled scoring opportunities. Jeremiah Rivas led the charge for the Broncos with a team-high six points, consistently attacking the basket and finding ways to contribute. Robert Gudgen chipped in five points. Grayson Bradley added two points to round out the Broncos’ scoring effort. The 7th Grade Silver Team won their game 47-44 The Broncos came away with a close win that went down to the final buzzer. Lake would trail at the end of the first quarter 11- 13 with Lawson Phillips and Blaine Johnson leading the game in points after one. The Broncos played well in the second quarter and would score 10 points in that quarter but would still trail 21 - 24 at halftime. Ke ‘Audre Bradley would lead the way for the Broncos offensively and defensively. At the end of third the Broncos would hold the lead 34 - 32 with Phillips once again leading the team in points. The 4th quarter would come down to the last 7 seconds and the Broncos would hold off to win as Cove tried to tie the game with a 3-point heave at the end. Other key contributors in the game were Harrison Fryar, Jett Turner, Gage Wieters, and Wyatt Bullard. The 8th Grade Red won 30–20 Roman Zaragoza led the charge for Lake Red, pacing the offense with a game-high 6 points. Following closely behind were Makaylyn Harrison, Michael Brooks-Davis, and Caleb Eckert, each contributing 5 points. Their consistency on both ends of the floor kept the team in control throughout the matchup. Carson Kukulski added 3 points, while Charlie Valish, Carlos Sanchez, and Cooper Smith chipped in 2 points apiece. The team’s defense also played a significant role, limiting Cove Red’s scoring opportunities and capitalizing on turnovers. This combination of defensive intensity and offensive efficiency proved too much for Cove Red to overcome. The 8th Grade Silver Team won 52-42 In the final game of the night Lake would come away with a win over the Cove Bulldawgs. Lake would lead 14-11 at the end of the first quarter with Cater Johnson leading the scoring with 6-points. The second quarter was much of the same with Lake going to the half time up 28-24 with a big time 3 pointer from half court by Jaiden Gomez. The second half the Broncos continued to add to their lead at the end of the third quarter 12-11. In the final quarter of the game Lake would finish 12-7 to secure the win. Leading Scorers: Tiger Maxwell with 16 points, Jaiden Gomez and Kayden Bridges with 9 points, Carter Johnson 6 points, Athan Reyna and Braxton Bronson 5 points, and Bronx Lattier had 2 points. Other contributors: Jacob Sullivan, Tristan Cannady, and Trayvon Lightbourne. The Broncos will be back in action on December 5th at Midway Middle School.
