CEN-TEX DISTRICT TOURNAMENT RESULTS

The 7th grade red and silver teams finished their season on an extremely positive note. Both teams did an excellent job of competing in the Cen-Tex District Basketball Tournament on Saturday February 17th hosted at South Belton Middle School. Lake Red's Middle school basketball team highlighted their determination at the recent District Tournament, clinching a commendable second-place finish. While the Silver team advanced to the second round of the tournament. In the Red team game opener against S.C. Lee, Lake Red set the tone for their tournament run with a solid 27-19 victory. Carter Johnson, Jakobe Sisson, and James Kelley led the scoring charge with 5 points each, supported by Andrew McGuire and Charlie Valish with 4 points apiece. Michael Brooks-Davis and Javier Guerra contributed 2 points each, while defensive stalwarts Alfonso Thompson, Cooper Smith, Caleb Eckert, James Kelley, and Michael Brooks-Davis ensured a robust defensive presence. Building on their initial success, Lake Red continued their winning streak in the second game against Belton Middle School, prevailing with a score of 31-22. Charlie Valish and James Kelley with 7 points each, closely followed by Carter Johnson with 6 points and Alfonso Thompson with 5 points. Michael Brooks-Davis and Caleb Eckert added 2 points each, while Andrew McGuire and Jakobe Sisson contributed 1 point each. Once again, the defensive lineup comprising Caleb Eckert, James Kelly, Charlie Valish, Carter Johnson, and Heston Seideman exhibited tenacity and resilience. In the Championship Game against River Valley, Lake Red fell short with a final score of 19-28, securing the second-place title. Charlie Valish led the scoring chart with 5 points, supported by Andrew McGuire and Javier Guerra with 3 points each, and Michael Brooks-Davis, Carter Johnson, and Jakobe Sisson with 2 points apiece. The defensive unit, led by James Kelly, Caleb Eckert, Charlie Valish, and Cooper Smith, displayed unwavering determination throughout the game. Lake would get off to a terribly slow start scoring only two points in the first quarter. Lake finally opened their eyes and outscored the Bulldogs into half time the Broncos would lead 18 to 17. In the third quarter Lake continued to increase their lead holding on to a seven-point lead going into the fourth and final period of the game. The Broncos secured the win by holding off Bonham and advanced to the second round of the tournament. Final score Lake 39 – Bonham 29 Leading Scorers: Jaiden Gomez and Kaiden Bridges with 9 points, Tiger Maxwell had 8 points, Athan Reyna, Braxton Bronson had 4 points each. Carson Kukulski with 3 points. Tristian Cannady and Jacob Sullivan each had 1 point. In the second round the Broncos once again got off to a slow start against a very scrappy Midway Panthers team. Lake would trail 17 to 2 at the end of the first quarter of play. The Broncos had an extremely challenging time scoring offensively against the Panthers. Final: Lake 27 – Midway 47 Leading Scorers: Braxton Bronson 12 points, Kaiden Bridges and Jaiden Gomez with 5 points, Tristian Cannady 3 points and Athan Reyna with 2 points. .
