LAKE WINS VS. COPPERAS COVE
In a thrilling basketball matchup, the 7th Grade Broncos emerged victorious against the Copperas Cove Bulldogs. Both teams remain undefeated going into the Christmas and New Year’s break.
In the first matchup of the night between the Broncos and the Bulldog was a nail biter. The Silver Broncos got off to a slow start, being out scored 12 to 10 in the first quarter of action. The second quarter was much of the same with the Broncos down 22 to 19.
Turnovers would plague the Broncos all game long, but in the second half Lake managed to outscore the Bulldogs 13 to 10 and tie the game up 32 to 32 at the end of regulation. In the overtime period Lake would hold on and secure the win by only allowing the bulldogs one basket in the overtime period.
Free-throws were key for the Bronco down the stretch going to the line Twenty-one time compared to the Bulldogs four. Defensively Jaiden Gomez, Carson Kukulski, Grandon Taylor, and Kayden Bridges would bring a much-needed spark for the Broncos.
The final score: Lake 38 – Cove 34.
Leading the Broncos scoring: Tiger Maxwell 11 points, Kyson Fish and Braxton Bronson both with 8 points, Athan Reyna 5 points, Tristan Cannady 4 points, and Erick Harness with 2 points.
The Red Teams game show case an impressive offensive performance, with Briggs Robin leading the charge with 18 points. James Kelley contributed 9 points, while Charlie Valish and Carter Johnson chipped in with 8 and 4 points, respectively.
The scoring depth continued with Heston Seideman putting up 3 points, and Caleb Eckert, Javi Guerra, and Jakobe Sisson each adding 2 points to the tally. Alfonso Thompson and Cooper Smith rounded out the scoring with 1 point each. The final score was Broncos 50 and Bulldogs 18.
While the offense shone, it was the outstanding defense displayed by Briggs Robin, James Kelley, and Carter Johnson that truly made the difference. Their defensive prowess played a pivotal role in securing victory for the Broncos. This well-rounded performance showcased the team's cohesion and determination on both ends of the court, setting a promising tone for future games.
We have a much-needed break, and the next game will be on the road at S. C. Lee Middle School in Copperas Cove. Thursday, January 11 @ 5:00. Game Time and Location is subject to change.
