All four girls teams competed over the weekend in the Georgetown Holiday Tournament. Two of the four teams brought home some hardware.
The Lake Belton 8B team would go 1-2 at the tournament where they would play for consolation. On Friday the Broncos would play Benold. Lake came out a little slow in this first contest against Benold. Behold would jump out to a 8-1 lead in the first quarter and remain dominant for the rest of the game. Lake would lose this game 5-24. Offensive player of the game was Bella Smith-Bisceglia and defensive player of the game was Jewels Wright.
Game 2 against Wagner was a defensive battle. The Broncos matched up point for point in the first quarter, and fought to keep it close for the rest of the game. Lake would end up on the winning side of this matchup, with the 9-8 victory. Raija Christian was offensive player of the game scoring 4 points. Ella Chamberlin was the defensive player of the game with some great rebounding.
With a victory in the books, Lake would enter game three of the tournament playing for consolation. The Broncos were up for the challenge and played well in the first quarter, staying with Wagner post for post. Unfortunately our defense waned and Wagner got hot in the second quarter going on a 12 point scoring run. We could not make up the deficit and would end up losing 7-19. Defensive player of the game was Soraya Siller and offensive player was Bella Smith-Bisceglia.
Lake Belton Girls 8A team had a strong rebound after the initial loss to Benold MS on Friday. Winning both games on Saturday with scores of 32-7 against Wagner MS and 15-8 against Running Brush MS to win the consolation bracket.
Congratulations to Ayaana Omisola for being the top scorer with an impressive 41 points and earning the offensive player recognition. It's also fantastic to acknowledge Aralina Acosta for showing great improvement and earning the defensive player.
Overall, the Georgetown Holiday tournament was really fun for our 7B girls playing against different levels of teams. We were challenged both physically and mentally throughout the weekend and rose up on many occasions to execute in critical times. Amongst the 3 games we played we showed much growth skill, teamwork, and resilience. We beat Benold 16-2, lost to Austin Hill Country 29-7, and came out with a well-earned win against Tippett to secure 3rd place in the tournament 17-11. Their exceptional performance, positive attitude, and ability to learn from both victories and setbacks make them a source of pride for their school and community. This experience will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for their future successes on the basketball court and beyond! Our top offensive players include Savannah Long, Sophia Rotramel, and Jordynn Landry. Our top defensive players include Taytum Hobson, Jadyn Martin, and Keira Dzenowski. Great job Bronco 7B!
The 7th grade A team started the tournament off with a win against Benold 20-13. Charli Williams and Lexi Walker led the team in scoring with 4 points each. The win would put the team in the winner's bracket on Saturday.
In the first game on Saturday, Lake would face a talented team from Hill Country MS. The Broncos found themselves down at the half and were unable to bounce back taking their first loss of the season 11-24. Lexi Walker would lead the team in scoring with 4 points. Aiyana Rountree played well for the Broncos on defense.
In the third place game agains Tippit MS, Lake struggled to get anything going offensively with several missed opportunities to score under the basket. Tippit would come out on top 20-14 and taking third place. Elizah O'Bannon was high scorer for the Broncos with 4 points.
