Lake Belton 8th Grade Silver Team Falls Just Short in Hard-Fought Defensive Battle Against Bonham In a defensive battle that came down to the final minutes, the Lake Belton 8th Grade Silver Broncos narrowly missed a comeback, falling 8-6 to the visiting Bonham Bulldogs on Tuesday night. First-Half Defensive Duel The Bulldogs received the opening kickoff but were turned away early after failing to convert on a crucial 4th down. The Broncos took over, but a turnover on a fumble gave Bonham back the ball in prime field position. Bonham capitalized on the opportunity with 6:26 left in the 2nd quarter, completing a passing touchdown and successfully converting the point-after to jump ahead 8-0. Lake Belton answered with a strong drive down to the Bulldog 22-yard line. However, a 39-yard field goal attempt with 2:37 remaining in the half went wide. The Broncos' defense stepped up just before the break, grabbing a critical interception with only 2 seconds remaining in the 2nd quarter to keep the deficit at 8-0 heading into halftime. Broncos Strike in the Third Quarter Receiving the second-half kickoff, the Lake Belton offense found its rhythm. Driving the length of the field, the Broncos punched it into the end zone on a quarterback sneak with 20 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, cutting the lead to 8-6. Late Defensive Stand Comes Up Just Short With under 4 minutes remaining in the game, the Broncos defense produced a huge stop to give their offense one final opportunity. However, Lake Belton was unable to convert on 4th down on their final drive, allowing Bonham to run out the clock and secure the victory. Standout Performances & Looking Ahead Despite the narrow loss, key players delivered standout performances for Lake Belton: Kevin Saunders led the effort on offense, driving key gains downfield. Samuel Martinez anchored the defensive unit, delivering key stops and holding Bonham scoreless in the second half. The Broncos (8th Grade Silver) will look to bounce back in their final matchup of the season when they host the South Belton Tigers on Tuesday, October 27th. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15 PM.
