Broncos Battle Past Bulldawgs in Thrilling 22-16 Victory The 8th grade Lake Belton Broncos Silver Team edged out the Copperas Cove Bulldawgs 22-16 in an action-packed, back-and-forth contest at Bulldawg Stadium on Tuesday evening. Lake Belton took the opening kickoff and systematically moved the ball downfield behind a balanced mix of run and pass plays. However, a costly interception halted the opening drive, keeping both teams scoreless through the end of the first quarter. The defense set the tone early in the second frame. After Copperas Cove failed to move the chains and punted, the Broncos suffered a fumble on the subsequent drive, giving the Bulldawgs prime field position. The Bronco defense stepped up with a crucial stand, giving the offense another opportunity. Lake Belton capitalized when a touchdown pass put the Broncos up 8-0 with 2:12 remaining in the half. Copperas Cove responded with a promising drive late in the quarter, but a Bronco interception with just 1:00 left preserved Lake Belton’s 8-0 lead heading into halftime. The second half brought non-stop fireworks: 3rd Quarter: Copperas Cove received the second-half kickoff and marched downfield, tying the game at 8-8 on a quarterback keeper. 3rd Quarter (4:13): The Broncos immediately answered back as Lake Belton returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown, restoring the lead at 14-8. 3rd Quarter (3:45): The Bulldawgs fought right back with a quick drive to convert the go-ahead score, jumping ahead 16-14. 4th Quarter (6:12): Refusing to back down, Lake Belton executed a methodical touchdown drive to recapture the lead, 22-16.
