Both the 8th grade A and B Volleyball teams dominated the competition this past weekend to come away as the tournament champs. The 8th grade B teams started their road to the championship on Friday night with a three set win over Bonham 25-14, 23-25, and 15-6. Strong serving from Elizabeth Neels and some great plays at the net by Ailatyn Alford helped lead the team to victory. The semi-final match was against a tough Lorena team that kept both sets close with the Broncos coming out on top 25-19 and 25-18. Alford and Lucy Mahoney had some good plays at the net while Laynie Wurts and Jenna Taylor hustled around on defense to keep the ball in play. Lake would face Academy in the championship match. Each set remained close with Lake pulling away in both sets winning 25-20 and 25-20. Mahoney had several aces in the match to lead the way from the service line. Neels and Willa Nanney had number of assist at setter. The entire team did a great job communicating and doing everything they could to come away with the championship. The 8th grade A team started the championship run in an opening round win in two sets 25-20 and 25-17 against a scrappy Lorena team. In the championship game, Lake faced Belton Middle in a back and forth battle. Lake took set one 25-19. The second set proved to be an even tougher battle with the Tigers winning by a narrow margin 23-25. The third and final set Lake got out to a commanding lead, but Belton fought back to keep the score close until the final point. Lake won the deciding set 15-13. Charli Stawski and Emery Seideman had some big serves in that final match with Seideman serving the final point for with an ace. E. Seideman also had several big kills throughout the day. Nettie Morgenroth, Sydney Harvey, Hayden Fryar had a lot of good plays on the net. Stella Beronio, Adalina Durante, and Campbell Sedieman held down the defense with several great digs.
