LBMS 7TH GRADE GAME RESULTS VS MIDWAY
7th Grade Silver Broncos Show Grit in Road Battle Against Midway
The Lake Belton 7th Grade Silver Team traveled to Waco on Monday evening to face off against a tough Midway Panthers squad. Despite a relentless effort on both sides of the ball, the Broncos fell short in a 19-0 decision.
The contest opened as a physical, defensive duel. Both teams traded tough defensive stops, keeping each other off the scoreboard through a scoreless first quarter. Midway broke the deadlock midway through the second quarter, connecting on a long touchdown pass with 6:49 remaining to take a 7-0 lead. Following a Bronco punt on the next possession, the Panthers capitalized on field position at their own 40-yard line, striking again on another deep pass to stretch their halftime lead to 13-0.
Lake Belton came out determined in the second half. The Broncos' defense quickly stepped up, halting Midway’s opening drive to force a punt. However, Midway's defense responded with a key stop of its own before their offense pushed across a rushing touchdown with 1:59 left in the third quarter, extending the lead to 19-0.
Refusing to back down, the Broncos mounted an impressive drive deep into Panther territory late in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, a costly fumble on a running play halted the momentum, allowing Midway to hold on for the shutout win.
Standout players for the Broncos include Christopher Gibson on special teams, Gage Johnson on offense, and Carson Arnold on defense.
The 7th Grade Silver Broncos will enjoy a well-deserved bye week to regroup and refine their game plan. They return to action on home turf when they take on Cove Middle School on Monday, September 28. Game time is at 6:15 pm.
The Lake Belton Red Broncos opened their football season on the road against the Midway Red Panthers, battling throughout the game before falling 16–0.
Despite the final score, Lake Red showed plenty of promise, putting together three strong offensive drives. The Broncos moved the football effectively at times but were unable to finish those drives due to penalties and turnovers.
Quarterback Rhett Picarazzi led the Lake Red offense, completing several passes and showing good poise throughout the game. Wide receiver Jacob Zaragoza and running back Courtland Cannady each came up with big catches to help move the Broncos down the field.
Defensively, Austin Elliott led the way for Lake Red, making several tackles for loss and creating problems for the Midway offense. The Broncos continued to compete hard on defense and showed signs of improvement throughout the game.
Lake Red will use the upcoming bye week to regroup, correct mistakes, and continue building on the positive moments from the season opener.
The Broncos will return to action on September 28, when they host Cove Middle School at Lake Belton High School.
