Silver Lake Belton Broncos Battle to 24-24 Tie Against North Belton
The 7th grade Silver Lake Belton Broncos put on a thrilling show Monday night as they hosted the North Belton Broncos at Bronco Field. In a back-and-forth showdown full of explosive plays and determined defense, both teams walked away with a hard-fought 24-24 tie.
North Belton wasted no time making their presence known, breaking off a long touchdown run on their opening drive to take an early 6-0 lead. But the Lake Belton Broncos answered right back, with quarterback Jace Moon connecting on several key passes before finding running back Anders Phillips for a touchdown to even the score at 6-6.
With 2:27 left in the first quarter, North Belton capitalized on a strong passing game to regain the lead, going up 12-6. Lake Belton’s offense struggled to convert on third down and was forced to punt, but the defense held strong with a crucial 4th down stop that shifted momentum.
That momentum turned into points when the Lake Belton offense marched downfield, finishing the drive with a powerful rushing touchdown by quarterback Jace Moon to tie the game again, 12-12, with just over four minutes left in the first half.
However, North Belton responded quickly with another long touchdown run to retake the lead, 18-12. As the half wound down, Lake Belton threatened to score again but a costly fumble gave North Belton the ball back deep in Bronco territory. Fortunately for Lake Belton, the defense held firm, and the half ended without further scoring.
The second half opened with Lake Belton back on offense, and they wasted no time. Moon led a precision passing drive, capped by a touchdown pass to Jonathan Dwyer to tie things up at 18.
But on the very next kickoff, North Belton struck again — returning it all the way for a touchdown to jump ahead 24-18.
With 4:51 remaining in the fourth quarter, Lake Belton mounted one final push. Moon delivered another set of clutch passes, this time connecting with Bowen Williams for a game-tying touchdown. Both teams had opportunities to seal the win late, but defensive units on both sides stepped up with key stops, and the game ended in a well-earned 24-24 draw.
Lake Belton’s offensive line played a crucial role in the contest, giving Jace Moon the time he needed in the pocket throughout the night. In addition to his touchdown pass to Phillips and scores to Dwyer and Williams, Moon also added a rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
Defensively, Lake Belton’s line stood tall in the trenches, making physical plays and delivering critical stops, including a pivotal 4th down hold in the first half.
The Silver Team now looks ahead to their next matchup against the Belton Middle School Tigers on Tuesday, October 14th at Bronco Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:15 PM.
